To start off on this page I would like to point out that the name should be "the lack of historical information". Since silver was discovered so long ago, much of the historical background information is missing or unknown. We only know about it's uses throughout history.
First off, the discoverer himself is unknown. We do know that this element was first used in Greece, Turkey and Ancient Sumeria. Silver was first recorded back in 4000 B.C. and it was being used mostly for money. The silver was a token for trade.
Again, I apologize for the lack of historical recordings concerning the discovery of silver.
We do know, however, the uses of silver throughout history. Here are some:
- food coloring
- photography
- batteries
- electrical cords
- mirrors
- artificial rain making
- anti-bacterials
- helped prevent infections in WW1
- jewelry
- silverware
- money in ancient times
- money in the US until 1965
- money in Mexico
- light switches
- electronic devices
- keyboards
- dental alloys
